Attendance

A child’s attendance can significantly impact his or her achievement and academic performance. For that reason, we ask parents to ensure their children attend school daily except for illness, and notify the school within 24 hours about the reason for an absence. Details on excused vs unexcused absences, tardiness, independent study, and early dismissal can be found in our board-approved attendance policy or in the Attendance section of the student handbook.

To Report an Absence

All student absences must be reported to your child’s school by filling out the online form linked below or calling the school’s office.

To Request Independent Study

Students who have a planned absence for an extended period may qualify for independent study, allowing them to complete assignments independently so they do not fall behind their classmates.

Requirements for independent study include:

  1. Fill out your school’s Attendance form (linked above) or call the school office at least 5 days in advance of the planned absence. If completing the form, check the box requesting independent study.
  2. Notify the school if you need to borrow a chromebook.
  3. Come to the office between 1-4 p.m. the day before the absence.
  4. Sign contract.
  5. During independent study period, initial that your student worked 5.5 hours on the assigned work.
  6. Sign the assignment document and have your student sign as well.
  7. Return independent study packet the day your student returns to school.

Details on the parameters of both short-term and long-term independent study can be found in our board-approved policy.
