Amelia Villanuava

Assistant Principal

I am honored and humbled to serve as the assistant principal at Lighthouse Charter School and to be able to serve our students, teachers, staff and the community. I began my teaching career in Sacramento Unified School District after graduating from Sacramento State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies and soon after I earned a Multiple Subject Credential with a BCLAD Certification. I was a TK-12 teacher for over a decade working in different schools with different educational programs, such as Spanish Dual Language Immersion and Mainstream Schools. After gaining experience as a classroom teacher, I decided to go back to school to earn an Administrative Credential and Masters Degree in Leadership. For the past few years, I worked with Emergent Bilingual as an ELD resource teacher and ELPAC Coordinator. I was also the ELAC Chair at my site.

I was born and raised in Michoacan, Mexico and came to the United States when I was 14 years old. I come from a family of four siblings and three of us are in the education field. We love serving and working with the community. An interesting fact is that my older sister and I were nominated teacher of the year within the same district!

I enjoy spending time with family and friends as much as possible. Some of my favorite activities when I am not working are traveling, trying different foods, the outdoors, exercising, extreme activities and taking my dog for walks. I like learning new things and I am currently learning how to play the guitar.

As a mother of two, a college student and a senior in high school I believe that students should receive quality education in order to succeed. I also understand how important is to build positive relationships and trust with all stakeholders.
